Introduction
The BUCS Individual Championships 2012 took place this year from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th of March.  This event is a highly-competitive individual fencing tournament, bringing together the best of British university fencing under one roof.

This year the BUCS Championships took place at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield and dispite the problems of travel and the re-scheduling of the Individuals from its normal time of November, many of UCL's fencers took the time out from their studies to represent their College.

For the BUCS Individuals:

The dates for the BUCS Individuals 2013 have not yet been announced, stay tuned here for more information which will be circulated as soon as we receive it. BFA licenses (or national equivalents) are required.  We may be asking for small deposits for accommodation in the event of last-minute cancellations next year (see below).  If anyone is interested, please contact Benedict Wiedemann (President-Emeritus, Men's II Captain) at uclu.fencing@gmail.com.

What We Need to Know
Please email your entry to uclu.fencing@gmail.com with the following information:

1. Name
2. Weapon(s) that you would like to fence
3. What nights you will be staying at the Hotel

The Tour Organiser will decide who to prioritise in the event that we have too many applicants for each weapon.

Deadline for Entry
Please inform us of your intention to compete before:
-Deadline will be released once Dates are finalised-

Please ensure we have received your deposit cheques by:
-See Deadline Above-

If we haven't received a cheque or other similar deposit by this time, we will withdraw your entry.

Deposits
Due to problems caused by last-minute cancellations in previous years, this year we are introducing a deposit policy.  Anybody entering the tournament will be required to provide a cheque for the value of £20 for each day they intend to compete.  We would prefer cheques, but cash will do in a pinch.

These cheques will be kept safe and will be returned to you. However if a competitor cancels at short notice and it is too late to amend our hotel booking, UCLU Fencing will cash your cheque and put it towards the cost of the room.

The BUCS Individuals represents a huge investment for UCL Union.  They willingly shell out over £80 per person per day (£20 accommodation, £20 entry, £40 or more transport) in order for us to send a team to compete.  If we have the maximum number of entries we are allowed (6x3x2 = 36), then it is costing the Union thousands of pounds.  It is not acceptable for us to ask them to pay for empty hotel rooms, and this is why we are asking for deposits this year.
